Robust and resilient carbon registries play a key role in overall carbon market design. They can provide much needed transparency and traceability of credits purchased. When connected to the financial market, they can reduce delivery risk and facilitate lower cost transactions. Designed correctly, carbon registries fortify the voluntary carbon market for future investment and growth.

TZ1 brings together people who have had many years of experience at designing, building and operating registries. They understand the features that are needed in a modern environment, making the TZ1 registry the best choice for the global voluntary market.

In addition to standard record keeping and the ability to track and report movements and balances, the TZ1 Registry also has the following functionality:

• Ability to efficiently handle serial numbers
• Electronic interface to other systems, such as those operated by exchanges, clearing houses, depositories and other financial institutions, using the well proven international standard messaging protocol, the SWIFT standard 15022, and/or Web services
• Internal functionality to support DvP
• Flexibility of reporting. Having a print out of the browser screen is not enough. The TZ1 Registry can provide reports in CSV format for loading into Excel, in Word format and in PDF format, useful for official statement of position.

Within the limits of privacy laws and requirements of users, the TZ1 Registry will be 'open'. Like share registries today, it will provide some information to the Public Domain.
